The Princeton Community Garden is excited to announce our 2026 Sunflower Growing Contest! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just planting your very first seed, we invite you to join the fun and show off your sunflower success.
🌱 Who Can Enter?
The contest is open to all residents of Princeton and surrounding Area H. Open to individual gardeners or groups.
Sunflowers may be grown:
- In your own yard, or
- At the Princeton Community Garden
All sunflowers must be grown during the 2026 season.
💲 Entry Fee
$5 per category
(The same sunflower may be entered into multiple categories.)
Entries will be accepted until August 31, 2026.
🌻 Contest Categories
- Tallest Sunflower
- Measured from soil level to the top of the flower head
- Flower head will be extended upright for accurate measurement
- Biggest Sunflower Head
- Measured by diameter of the seed head
- Petals are not included in the measurement
- Most Blooms on One Stalk
- Count all individual blooms on a single stalk
- Include unopened heads
- Most Character
- Uniqueness, creativity, personality, or overall visual appeal
Only one prize per category will be awarded.
📸 How to Submit
Photos of your sunflower, along with measurements, must be submitted for judging no later than September 15, 2026. Submissions can be emailed to [email protected]
Winners will be announced on September 18, 2026.
